Priyanka studied at St. Maria Goretti School in Bareilly, as a young girl and later went to the United States, where she was a student at Newton North High School in Newton, Massachusetts and North Delta Senior Secondary School in North Delta before returning to India to complete high school at Army School (Bareilly). She travelled so much because her father was in the army.
She had initially decided to become a software Engineer or a Criminal Psychologist, but while studying in Jai Hind College in Mumbai, she applied for the Miss India beauty pageant and came 2nd. Then she went for the Miss World pageant and won. After this she had a lot of film offers and dropped out of college to be an actress.
In 2003, her first Bollywood film, The Hero: Love Story of a Spy released and won her good reviews. Despite being a critical failure, the film went on to become one of the highest grossing films of that year. Priyanka’s third film, Andaaz opposite Akshay Kumar was a runaway success, earning her a Filmfare Best Female Debut Award and a nomination for Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award.
Her next few films such as Plan, Kismat and Asambhav (all 2004) failed to do well at the box office. Apart from these few failures, it was a very productive year for Priyanka. At the end of 2004, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi released and became the third highest grossing film of that year. Her first negative role in her next release, Aitraaz, a Hindi remake of the Demi Moore-starrer Disclosure won her critical acclaim and earned her the Filmfare Best Villain Award. This role also got her a second nomination for Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award.
In the same year, she participated in a world tour aptly titled 'Temptations 2004' with Bollywood's leading stars, Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Saif Ali Khan, Preity Zinta and Arjun Rampal. This was one of the biggest highlights of her acting career so far.
In 2005, she had many releases, like Blackmail, Karam and Yakeen though most didn't do well at the box office. But the exception was Waqt: A race against Time, with starring Akshay Kumar which was a smash hit. The end of this year also had Priyanka in one of her most popular performances with Bluffmaster starring Abhishek Bachchan and Ritesh Deshmukh. Her market value rose a lot after this film and she bagged reputed projects with Rakesh Roshan and Farhan Akhtar.
In 2006, Chopra starred in two of the most successful films of the year - Krrish and Don - The Chase Begins Again. Nikhil Advani's multi-starrer, Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute To Love was Priyanka's first release in 2007. The movie failed to do well at the box office. Her most recent release, Big Brother also failed to do well.
She currently has 6 releases lined up for 2008 including Don 2, Drona and Love Story 2050, which are all big-banner films.
