Jun 18, 2009

Anupama Ahuja , wife of Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja who is currently in police custody after being accused of raping his 18 year old maid held a press conference in a plush club in western suburbs to defend her husband. Rubbishing reports that Shiney had confessed to the crime, Anupama said, "There is no way he could have raped the maid. I have known him since the past 15 years and he is my best friend and soul mate. He cannot rape anyone." Whe asked about how did Shiney got caught in the case, she claimed that he was being a victim of a frame up. However, she refused to comment further on who could be the conspirator and his/her motive. "That is a job for the police to find out. I have complete faith in the judicial system of our country and I am sure that he would be found not guilty," she asserted.

Anupama who was accompanied by several of her friends and neighbours said that filmmakers like Sudhir Mishra and Anurag Basu had expressed their support to her.

"Shiney is innocent and we are the best of friends. He has always being a ideal neighbour and I have seen him as a laoving husband and a loving father" said Ruchika Marvah , Shiney's neighbour. Another resident of the society Satish Kapur said, "Shiney is a very good man. We used to meet in the garden when he used come out for a stroll with his daughter".

On being asked about what would be her line of action if medical tests prove that Shiney is guilty of the rape accusation, Anupama retorted, "Can the sun rise in the west?. I have full faith in my husband and am proud to be his wife.
