Salman Khan dragged to court for Veer

Jan 24, 2010

An author filed a lawsuit today against Hindi film star Salman Khan and director Anil Sharma in the Delhi high court seeking to stay the screening of the film Veer. Pavan Choudary's suit alleged that the film had illegally used some concepts from his book.

Choudary has sought damages of Rs.20 lakh from the producer and the director of the film for alleged violation of his copyright for making illegal gains by lifting a portion from his book Trilogy of Wisdom.

The petition, filed through advocates CS Yadav and Pandey Rajiv Rajhans, said that the producer, the director, and the story writer are well aware of his extraordinary and remarkable reputation. They are also well aware that use of idea and concept that India should not be a 'Sone Ki Chidiya (golden bird) but BAAZ (eagle)' in the film are violation of intellectual property rights. Choudary submitted in his petition that he had earlier sent a legal notice to the film's makers not to use his concept, but they went ahead with the release.

The petition also notified that the defendants have threatened and intended to continue the aforesaid wrongful acts and thereby infringe his copyrights. They would continue to do so unless restrained by this court.
