Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan's Om Shanti Om is a pure entertainer. It was great to watch SRK in a hardcore ‘masala’ film after a long time. Lately, he has drifted to other genres, experimenting varied roles. With Om Shanti Om, he gave the audience a film, which offers only entertainment and no gyaan. Om Shanti Om is a masala flick in its truest form and also, at its best.

· Farah Khan was originally interested to make a film called Happy New Year. The film was a romantic comedy and supposed to have Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla, Raveena Tandon, Amitabh Bachchan, Manisha Koirala, Sanjay Dutt, Zayed Khan and Priyanka Chopra as its cast. However, due to the stars' date hassles, she scrapped the idea and chose another concept inspired from various 1970’s films.

· Initially, A.R. Rahman was supposed to compose the music of this film, but had to decline due to other commitments. Later, Vishal-Shekhar duo was roped in.

· Shah Rukh Khan's character of Om Prakash Makhija is named after a 1970’s actor, Om Prakash.

· Shanti's (Deepika Padukone) film was named Dreamy Girl, after the Hema Malini starrer Dream Girl of 1977.

· The vintage cars used in the film originally belonged to Rajesh Khanna and Hema Malini .

· The song 'Dard-e-Disco' was originally supposed to be shot on the Latin singer, Shakira. Farah Khan had choreographed her performance at the MTV Video Music Awards 2006 and so, wanted to do the number with her. But the singer’s upcoming concert tours rendered her unavailable. Farah then asked Shah Rukh to do the song as he had promised her once to do a bare-bodied sequence in her film.

· Farah wanted to bring Sanjay Dutt, Shah Rukh , Aamir, Salman and Saif Ali Khan together on screen. While Sanju baba, Sallu and Saif accepted the offer, Aamir Khan declined it as he was busy shooting Taare Zameen Par. However, insiders say that Aamir was not interested to do a cameo in a SRK film.

· Dev Anand was also approached to do a special appearance in the film, but he made it clear that he does not believe in blink-and-miss appearances.

· The character of Rajesh Kapoor in the film is inspired from Rajesh Khanna, the superstar of the 70’s.
