Sohail Kahan has had quite a Bollywood lineage to live up to. His father Salim Khan, a successful scriptwriter of 70’s - 80’s, while his stepmother Helen was the undisputed dancing diva and Bollywood actress Helen. His older brothers Arbaaz khan and Salman Khan have carved out a niche for themselves in the Hindi Film Industry. Sohail Khan started his career as a producer with his production company, Sohail Khan Production and also making his directorial debut with the 1997 action thriller Auzaar that starred his brother, Salman Khan and Sanjay Kapoor. The film did not do well however with his second release Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya (1998), Sohail at last emerged from the shadow of being Salman Khan's kid brother. He is finally being recognized as a director. He has remained a totally down to earth person, choosing to remain behind the camera, letting his work speak for him. Being a part and parcel of the industry, Sohail has received a lot of criticism too. From Auzaar (1997) to Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya (1998), critics felt Sohail still had to brush up on his direction, which was proved wrong with his third venture, Hello Brother(1999), which silenced many of them. People said he was not technically very sound but he remained unruffled. He learnt many things from all his films. Much before he could take up the decision of acting, many acting offers had come his way, even from Sooraj Barjatya for Hum Saath Saath Hain (1999) which he denied and eventually the role went to Saif Ali Khan. He was starred in films like Fight Club - Members Only (19999), Aryan (2006), Partner (2007) and his recent release Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute To Love (2007). He has also announced to star for the first time with both his brothers Salman and Arbaaz in Amar Akbar Anthony a remake of the 1977 Manmohan Desai film of the same name.
