The adage ‘Jack of all trades, master of none' describes Mahesh Manjrekar perfectly. Not only is he a very good director but also tried his hands at every techniques of filmmaking, from scripting to editing. A multi-faceted person, Manjrekar took the tried and tested route of theatre to films.

His plays always struck the right chord and brought out the best in him. Same goes for his films. Starting with a Marathi film Aai, which won him Filmfare Awards and Screen Awards alike, Mahesh has made many impressive films on various topics. He not only hit the bonsai with Vaastav but also gave a new lease of life to Sanjay Dutt's dilapidated career graph. Sanjay Dutt had played many gangster roles but what Mahesh extracted from him in Vaastav was simply exemplary.

However, he couldn't sustain to his initial success and succumbed to it by making a few dismal films like Nidaan, Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hai, and others. It was then that he decided to do something different and shocked everyone with his immaculate acting in Kaante. Today, he's doing some of the enviable roles in many films and was recently seen in the Oscar award winning film Slumdog Millionaire.

A man of many talents, Mahesh Manjrekar is considered one of the best directors in tinsel town.
