Hrithik Roshan’s debut was a sensation. No other actor since the Rajesh Khanna blitzkrieg of 1969 had made such an instant impact as Rakesh Roshan’s son had done with just one film! He had audiences, especially girls, swooning over him all over. It was the kind of success an actor only dreams of. Hrithik Roshan and Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai won practically every award in sight for 2000. And he was, perhaps, the first actor to win both the Best Debut and Best Actor awards the same year. Unfortunately, perhaps because he hadn’t anticipated the magnitude of the success his debut film would achieve, there was no-back up film or strategy to sustain the mind-boggling hysteria. And Hrithik lost out on the opprrtunity cash in on the euphoria his debut film had generated. Films like Fiza and Mission Kashmir that followed, didn't live up to audience expectations. But there was no doubt about the immense histrionic potential the industrious young actor possessed. After a lacklustre spell which saw him churn out a a series of inconsequential films, Hrithik took a break to meticulously work his way back to the top with two films, Koi Mil Gaya, a science fiction (2003) and Krrish, a super hero flick (2006), specially designed for him by his resourceful director-father Rakesh Roshan. In between, he played an out-and-out villain in Yash Raj Films’ blockbuster Dhoom 2 to steal the thunder from a cast comprising Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan and Bipasha Basu. In the process Hrithik emphatically underlined the enormous talent he is endowed with.
